Summer adventures await at the Round Rock Public Library 

Downtown Round Rock is heating up – and so is the Round Rock Public Library with summer programming that’s too good to miss. 

The Round Rock Public Library is bringing the energy with a packed calendar of standout events. Catch a free family-friendly screening of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, or explore the world of science through hands-on experiments (“How to Become a Paleontologist,” “Artemis Generation: NASA’s Next Giant Leap”). Concerts, art events, storytelling (of course) and even a gaming convention are part of the lineup. 

Below are just a few highlights (listed by date):  

  • Teen Writing Workshop with P.J. Hoover (6:30 p.m. June 10) 

Join P.J. Hoover, author of the popular “Write Your Own Quest” interactive adventure series, as she gives tips on how to put those imaginative thoughts in your head down on paper.  

  • All Things Honey Bee (1:30 p.m. June 13) 

The library will be abuzz as beekeeper Becky Barajas will discuss how she found her sweet calling.  

  • Library on the Go (June 14 and July 12 and 26) 

We’ll be packing up the library and bringing it to local parks. Library on the Go will be at Mesa Village Park on June 14 and July 12 and at Frontier Park on July 26.   

  • Sunday Matinee: “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” (1:30 p.m. June 15) 

Watch the 2024 action-adventure film based on the popular video games, rated PG, on the first floor. 

  • African storytime with Elizabeth Kahura (June 16) 

Storyteller Elizabeth Kahura invites you on an African safari, with sessions at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. that Monday.  

  • Local author meet and greet (11 a.m. June 21) 

Meet some local celebrities, who will be reading excerpts from their books.  

  • Chigiri-e Japanese Torn Paper Collage Art Class (4 p.m. June 24) 

Instructor Sari Megumi Fujimaru will teach you how to mindfully tear beautifully printed Japanese paper to create collage art.  

  • Ukrainian Stories and Craft (6:30 p.m. June 26) 

Kateryna Voinova will present Ukrainian stories and a sunflower craft. Presented by the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America and the Ukrainian School of Austin.   

  • Tabletop Adventure Gaming Mini-Con (1:30 p.m. June 28) 

Come play a variety of tabletop role-playing games in a shared, convention-style, multi-table setting. 

  • Career Talk: How to Become a Paleontologist (3 p.m. July 18) 

Go on a dig and make a dinosaur discovery with paleontologist BK Bones. 

  • Artemis Generation: NASA’s Next Giant Leap (1 p.m. July 19) 

Presenter Tyler Hines, a student intern at the Johnson Space Center, stops by to discuss NASA’s newest program, which aims to return humans to the moon.  

  • ACCHaoS: traveling hands-on science show (4:30 p.m. July 24) 

Take part in an experiment, explore and have fun as Austin Community College brings its traveling interactive science show to the library.  

  • Terrence Taps Tap Dancing Show (11 a.m. July 26) 

Check out the mesmerizing tap dancing of professional performing artist Terrence Taps. 

  • Mr. Johnny and Friends concert (July 31) 

Mr. Johnny and Sharon promise to get toddlers and pre-school children singing and dancing in performances at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. 

  • Travis Audubon Society: Places to Bird in Our Area (2 p.m. Aug. 2) 

Learn all about our winged friends around us and where to watch them from Travis Audobon Master Birder MaryG Zell.
