Round Rock Public Library marks one month of operations in new building

This week marked one month since the Round Rock Public Library opened its doors in a new three-level facility at 200 E. Liberty Ave.

A brief ceremony held on Jan. 28 was followed by the library opening to the public, with a line that wrapped all the way around the new building. More than 7,400 people visited the library for family-friendly activities during the open house. The first book checked out by a patron was “Heart Goes Last,” which was checked out 12 minutes after the doors were opened.

During the month of February, 60,195 patrons visited the library, checking out 73,867 items and returning 57,287. The Library welcomed 2,518 new cardholders, averaging 89 per day. Over the last two years, the average was 27 per day. While weekday visits to the library increased an average of 29 percent compared to last year, Saturday and Sunday visits increased by an average of 48 and 49 percent, respectively. The new library’s study rooms were used for a combined total of 1,126 hours during the month of February.

About the new Round Rock Public Library

The new building, which was designed by PGAL, Inc. and constructed by Hensel Phelps, is approximately 66,000 square feet and three stories, with an adjacent 289-stall parking garage. The library building was funded through the 2013 voter-approved bond package and cash from the City’s General Self Finance Construction fund; the garage was funded by Type B sales tax revenues.

With additional space, the library will expand its core services to children, teens and adults, as well as technology and more types of meeting spaces and program rooms. The new state-of-the-art facility features areas for quiet work/study on the third floor, classrooms on the first floor, outdoor spaces on each level, study rooms on the second and third floors, dedicated children’s story time rooms, early learning areas, space for activities and crafts, space for collaboration and flexible spaces for programs and collections.

Programming to resume this month

After a programming hiatus – due to the relocation of the facility from November 2022 to January 2023 – the library’s programs for children, teens, and adult are back in full swing this March! Click the link below to visit the Library’s calendar of events.
