There’s actually quite a good chance you can now find a wagyu beef and cheeseburger, made by a Michelin starred chef, in Round Rock.
The Rock Sports Bar has begun offering the NADC Burger – the specialty smashburger concept by professional skateboarder Neen Williams and chef Phillip Frankland Lee. Once a project Williams and Lee worked on while making the burger at skate parks and comedy shows, NADC – which stands for “Not A Damn Chance” – in 2022 became a walk-up window on a bar patio on Austin’s trendy Rainey Street.
It has since grown to include 13 locations, including Rock Sports Bar. Among the other spots are restaurants in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas and New York’s Soho district.
The NADC Burger consists of two 3-ounce wagyu beef patties with specially made American cheese, secret sauce, onions, pickles and jalapeños. Contrary to popular belief, modifications are allowed, according to the NADC Burger website.
The Rock Sports Bar menu also includes a kid’s cheeseburger – with only one patty – twice-fried French fries and brown butter chocolate chip cookies.
Lee captured Michelin stars for his Pasta|Bar and Sushi by Scratch Restaurants concepts. A former high school dropout, he became a sous chef at age 21, opening his own restaurant just four years later. He initially operated Pasta|Bar in late afternoons and evenings out of space in a coffee shop in Hollywood.
He’s competed on culinary series “Top Chef” and “Chopped,” and operates Scratch Restaurants Group with his wife, Margarita Kallas-Lee. They maintain about 30 locations nationwide, including NADC Burger spots.
Williams coined his signature “Not a damn chance” catchphrase while competing in food-eating challenges, signifying the food stood no chance against him. He gained fame for his skateboarding style, turning pro in 2012 before injury led him to become a fitness instructor. He overhauled his diet and began cooking at skate spots.
The collaboration between he and Lee began in 2021 after he ate at Sushi by Scratch in Austin. The NADC Burger now utilizes Williams’ handcrafted spice blends.
