Family, flavor, and tradition come together at Recuerdos Tex-Mex in Downtown Round Rock

Recuerdos Tex-Mex has been a staple in Downtown Round Rock for over nine years, serving locals and visitors alike with cheesy enchiladas and a generous helping of family charm, seven days a week.

When the Ontiveros family took over the business in 2020, they knew two things: they didn’t want to change the recipes or the welcoming, family-owned atmosphere of the restaurant.

What’s the star of the menu? According to owner Johnny Ontiveros, it’s the enchiladas—a fan favorite among customers. Whether you prefer them with beef, cheese, or the unique ranchero sauce topped with queso (a special twist that isn’t listed on the menu), you’re in for a treat.

Johnny’s niece, Nina Ontiveros, works as a server at the restaurant and shared that it’s all hands on deck when things get busy. “We’re all family here. My cousins, my uncles, and my aunt work here.”

Recuerdos has also cultivated a loyal base of regulars who visit every week. Johnny enjoys seeing familiar faces come in, already knowing what they’re going to order. “They come week after week, sometimes on a daily basis. I see them walking in from the parking lot, and I know what they want to drink and what they want to eat.”
